The name Windermere derives from the Old Norse “Onundar Myrr” and the area is rich in fairy folklore. It’s even said to have its own fairy monster known locally as the ‘Tizzy Wizzy’! Windermere was populated long before the Roman times so it’s certainly had plenty of time to create a long list of legends!
