So one thing we love about furiously sewing beautiful flower girl dresses and sending them out all over the world, is seeing where they end up and I am thrilled to say this week Wales in on the map. How we wish we could deliver all our dresses personally! We love love love holidays in Wales. So, the flower girl dresses we make are often for the little ones which are of course by definition adorable but this time it was lovely to see our dresses modelled by some older girls looking simple and elegant. We do sometimes get brides emailing us asking for advice on how to get their 13 year old daughter into a flower girl dress and these girls are a great example to refer to! For older girls, we like to find out what they feel comfortable wearing and, often, we drop the waist and lower the neckline a little which gives a more 'grown up' feel to our dresses.
Though we are flower girl obsessed, of course, we couldn't leave without mentioning the brides amazing dress which we thought was an absolute stunner. It's from Twobirds, who we have come across a number of times and have always loved. http://cwtchthebride.com/real-wedding-heledd-geraint-keith-morris/ Congratulations to Heled and Geraint!
On the 5th of November: Guy Fawkes night for us Brits! We yearly burn effigies of a man on a bonfire and we have been since 1605. That pretty normal isn't it? Isn't it? Anyway, once again I'll say, on the 5th November we were featured on the Style Me Pretty blog, again! It's always a treat to see beautiful photos like these and even better to see a flower girl really loving her dress. (Photos by Emily Blake Photography).
It's our Honiton flower girl dress that is featured, which is a gorgeous hand made lace and tulle piece that little girls can wear again and again. Lets face it if us adults could get away with it we'd be in them to! That's why our dresses are so important to us. It's that one day when we can recapture that feeling of wearing a dress that makes you feel like a princess.
At Gilly Gray we say 'here's to some serious flower girl twirling!' Your flower girls deserve it.
Gilly and I are just back from exhibiting our flower girl dresses at the UK wedding show at the Excel Centre, and what a weekend we had! For a couple of seamstresses who spend their time diligently stitching in their studio only coming up to drink a cup of tea and eat hot crossed buns it was wonderful to meet our customers, discuss favourite colours, themes, dresses and fabrics. We really do love our flower girls! We met some wonderful people and are very excited to be more involved with their upcoming wedding and flower girl plans. We know it's hard to order such special things on the internet and we appreciate the trust that our customers put in us and we really love to try to meet up with their expectations!
It was great to know that UK flower girls are a big thing these days and little flower girls have strong opinions on what they want to wear and in which colours. And so they should! It' is their big day too after all. Silk skirts? layers of tulle? something perfect for twirling? Light cottons and sparkles? Nothing is too much trouble for our girls.
One thing that really came out of the day was the questions we were being asked. We had lots of interesting questions about our work and here's a few of them with answers:
Do you have a shop? The answer is sadly no we don't (we would love one!) but really this means we can keep our prices reasonable and we hope be one of the most affordable companies making made to measure natural flower girl dresses. Everything is done online or by telephone should you wish to talk things through!
Can you make (Insert most wedding related clothing items you can think of)? YES we can make most things if you give us enough time. So if you need cravats, ties or page boy outfits just let us know and we'll put together a bespoke order for you.
Can I have a silk bodice, cotton skirt, peacock feathers, sparkles, etc etc? This is simple! YES you can. Just let us know and we can most likely sort it out for you.
My flower girl is growing fast, how do we deal with this when fitting? We know they grow quickly and we are used to accommodating this. We add 2 inches to the bodice to allow the girls to move and give room for a little growth. We find they tend to grow upwards rather than outwards so we leave a little extra on the hem too. You can easy order 6 months in advance and all will be fine for the wedding day.
So I hope this helps and we are very excited to work on some great new projects over the summer and really can't wait to see our UK wedding show flower girls dressed up in their fabulous frocks.
When we get the time we check out some of the bridal blogs just to see what's going on in the world of weddings (mostly with a beady eye on the flower girl dresses!) Despite working in the wedding trade on a daily basis I am always stunned by how beautiful and original people can make their special day. So imagine our surprise when from time to time we stumble across a Gilly Gray creation on one of the biggest blogs out there! Sadly Style Me Pretty don't list the suppliers used like other sites so there is no mention of our name, but have a look here and you'll see one or two pictures of a lovely wedding and an even more lovely Gilly Gray flower girl dress. http://www.stylemepretty.com/2013/09/24/north-carolina-wedding-from-beac...
Our dresses and accessories are featured in this gorgeous shoot by Helen Russell in the Belle Bridal Magazine.
We always love a bridal shoot and particularly when our flower girl dresses are the subject! We used the Peony flower girl dress teamed with the Bonny wedding shawl to keep your little flower girls warm!
